Ashtabula, OH: The effects of unprecedented national economic conditions are rippling along the shores of Lake Erie where plastics rotomolder Meese Orbitron Dunne Company (MOD) has launched major expansions of its manufacturing plants in Ashtabula, Ohio and Madison, Indiana. To accommodate rising customer demand, the international plastics innovator will enlarge the Ashtabula facility by 18,000 square feet and the Madison facility by 28,000 square feet.
The nearly 25% square footage increase in Ashtabula, Ohio will increase the plant's size from 66,800 square feet to 84,600 square feet. The enlarged facility will house a new rotomolding machine to expand manufacturing capacity as well as 6 new loading docks which are expected to streamline efficiency by 20%. A 30-space parking lot will accommodate increased personnel.
In Madison, the expansion will feature 23,800 square feet of rotomolding facility and 4,200 square feet of office space, enlarging the plant to a total of 150,000 square feet. A new rotomolding machine will also be added. The expansion follows the recent addition of a state-of-the-art powder-coating line.
Driving these expansions are a 30% sales increase in the company's Custom Molding Services Division, which required increased capacity, services and improved efficiencies to continue to meet the companyıs quick turnaround schedules, according to Ron Midili, President.
"Our customers are doing well and as a result, so are we," explains Mr. Midili. "The demand for plastics, particularly custom molded products, has never been greater. Our expansions are a direct result of stunning economic progress, our customers' confidence in their own success and our value-added services."
MOD is projecting a 40% increase in custom molding sales by year-end 1998. The unparalleled success will mark the 4th consecutive year that the company has recorded a sales increase in its custom molding division. The division is responsible for the design, engineering and manufacture of plastic products for demanding applications which often require superior strength and structural integrity and/or unique configurations such as fuel tanks, agricultural containers, playground equipment, toys, recreational equipment and other products. The division's clients include National Starch & Chemical, Toro and Disney.
