Plastics Manufacturer Doubles Investment In Automation With Purchase Of Second Rotational Molding System
Meese Orbitron Dunne Co. Purchases Its Second Leonardo System To Serve West
Company Seeks To Duplicate Immediate Returns Of Its First Installation
Ashtabula, OH: In a bold move demonstrating confidence in American
manufacturing, plastics design and manufacturing company Meese
Orbitron Dunne Co., Ashtabula, Ohio (www.Rotomolding.com), has
contracted to purchase its second Leonardo automated rotational
molding system from Persico SpA, Nembro, Italy. In 2007, MOD became
the first company in North America to purchase the automated Leonardo
system. When this second purchase comes online in 2009, MOD will
stand out as the only company on the continent operating two of the
systems in different facilities to serve customers nationwide. Terms
were not disclosed.
In a year marked by skyrocketing energy, fuel and plastic resin
costs, MOD gained substantial control over its costs on products
manufactured on the Leonardo molding system including savings on
freight for reduced delivery fees to the Midwest, where the system is
currently located. Doubling the investment with a second installation
will enable the company to apply comparable cost savings in its
services to the West, according to MOD President Robert Dunne. "Our
first installation has performed even better than anticipated," says
Dunne, with nearly a year of operational data in hand. "It has had a
significant impact on stabilizing our cost structure and we're eager
to bring this technology to our customers in the western part of the
country." The fully automated, robotic Leonardo operates faster than
traditional rotational molding machines, strengthens product quality
and reduces both material waste and energy consumption. MOD also
plans to offer products molded from engineered resins and other
materials not commonly considered for rotomolding.
