Plastics Molder Celebrates Start-Up of First Automated Rotational Molding System Serving Western USA
Meese Orbitron Dunne Co.'s Second Leonardo System Fully Operational
Ashtabula, OH: Plastics design and manufacturing company Meese Orbitron Dunne Co. (MOD), Ashtabula, Ohio (www.Rotomolding.com),
recently celebrated the start of production on its second Leonardo
automated rotational molding system. Installed in the company's La
Mirada, Calif. facility one year after the first rotomolding system
was installed in the company's Madison, Ind. facility, the addition
positions MOD as the only company on the continent operating two of
the systems in different facilities to serve customers nationwide.
Purchased from Persico SpA, Nembro, Italy, the automated system
operates faster than traditional rotomolding machines and yields more
consistent product quality yet it requires less energy and reduces
material waste, offering faster lead times with substantial
reductions in overhead.
The first product to be manufactured on the system was the company's
72S bulk laundry truck, a new design with smooth, rounded corners,
internal ribs and high strength at a light tare weight that enables
customers to save on fuel by transporting their standard volume of
goods at less weight, according to MOD President Robert Dunne. "The
improvements we made to this laundry cart design would not have been
possible to manufacture on other rotomolding machines," says Dunne,
whose team recently earned the "Product of the Year" and "Best Large
Part" awards in the Association of Rotational Molders International
2008 Rotomolded Products Competition. "We intend to use this new
rotomolding technology to supply higher quality custom parts for our
customers at reduced costs."
